Alexandre Santos returns to Petro with qualification for the African Champions League
24 Oct 2026
Alexandre Santos has made the best possible start to his second stint at Petro de Luanda.
In his first match since returning to lead the Angolan club, the Portuguese coach guided the team to a 3–0 victory over Scotland Mabvuku—a result that overturned a 2–0 deficit from the first leg and secured their spot in the group stage of the African Champions League.
His return was thus immediately defined by a comeback in a decisive knockout tie, ensuring Petro’s place among the teams competing in the next stage of Africa’s premier club tournament.
Alexandre Santos has returned to a club where he left a significant mark between 2021 and 2024.
During his first spell at Petro de Luanda, the Portuguese manager won three league titles, three Angolan Cups, and one Super Cup, while also leading the team to a semi-final and a quarter-final appearance in the African Champions League.
Two years later, his reunion with Petro has begun with a win, a comeback, and qualification for the African Champions League group stage.
