Alexandre Santos returns to Petro de Luanda
21 Oct 2026
Two years later, Alexandre Santos is back at Petro de Luanda.
The Portuguese coach has left Nacional to sign with Petro—a club where he has already made history, having led the team to three league titles, three Angolan Cups, and one Super Cup.
Alexandre Santos managed Petro de Luanda for three seasons, from 2021 to 2024, securing 91 victories in 133 matches. Beyond his domestic success, he guided the club to the semi-finals and quarter-finals of the African Champions League.
After leaving Petro, Alexandre Santos had stints in Tunisia (Sfaxien), Morocco (FAR Rabat), Kuwait (Kuwait FC), and Portugal (Nacional) before returning to Angola.
Currently, Petro sits in second place in the Girabola and is striving to reach the group stage of the Champions League; however, they were defeated 2–0 by Zimbabwe’s Scotland Mavbuku in the first leg of the second qualifying round. Overcoming this deficit will be the first major challenge for Alexandre Santos.
