Paulo Henrique: full power in Azores
15 Sep 2022
The Azorean Paulo Henrique is enjoying a very positive start to the season at Santa Clara. The defender, who can play either as a left-back or as a central defender, has been in the coach's choices in all the league games so far, confirming that he is going through a great moment in his career that allows him to aim for full affirmation.
Paulo Henrique is from Ponta Delgada and did all his youth career at Santa Clara, where he also debuted as a senior, in the 2013/14 season. The career was not traced in a straight line, mainly due to a serious injury suffered while representing Paços de Ferreira and which forced a long stop.
Despite this, he recovered, shone on loan at Sporting da Covilhã, in 2017/18, and was in time to help win the II League title, again in Capital do Móvel, the following season.
In 2019 he signed for Penafiel, where he returned to live two positive years in the II Liga. He arrived in the main Portuguese Championship last season and again for the club that opened the doors of football to him. In 2021/22 he played 31 games for Santa Clara in the League and this year, then, he already has 6, being one of the team captains.
“It's a good responsibility, but Paulo Henrique remains the same, whether or not he's captain. I help the younger ones to adapt, I try to help with whatever it takes and of course it's a great time for me to represent my club and my region", he assumed, in statements recently reproduced by the newspaper "Correio dos Açores".
Totalist in the League, Paulo Henrique is now one of the safe names in the Santa Clara squad, which is not having an easy start to the season, but who maintains his bet on the defender who knows the club so well.
